A Watertight Solution: Vaughan Metropolitan Centre
In the heart of the new “downtown for the suburbs,” sits SmartCentre’s 100 New Park Place, built by PCL and home to lead tenant, KPMG.
As the waterproofing contractor for the project, Bothwell was…er…flooded…with details as we tackled the underslab and wall waterproofing.
The area has a high water table. Due to the hydrostatic pressure the underslab had over 400 micropiles. This was not a case where the material could simply be rolled out and welded – there was no pattern. Rather each micropile had to be detailed.
The challenge was to balance the amount of detailing with the construction deadlines.
Our solution was to do the detailing work offsite. Using a sample, the team created over 400 micropile “boots” at our head office. The boots were then taken to the site where they were welded to the underslab.
Had we done the detailing onsite, our deadlines would have been…um…swamped… before we even started. But our team’s innovative thinking allowed us to not merely stick the schedule, but speed it up.
One might say it was an…cough… impervious… solution.
